I have been asked a number of times recently about the origins of this fine business. As such, it was decided I would allow my assistant to search my drawers and archives for photographs and price lists to show you all.
I started back in 1848 making my fine confections in my shop in Sheffield and selling them to my discerning patrons. Of course, little remains from the very early days but here are some priceless pieces from the 19th Century for all those interested in how it all began.
My shop is on the left underneath the George Hotel with our friendly Policeman out front. He always enjoyed a piece of my Mint Rock while on patrol. c 1895

I liked to keep my customers informed of all the interesting goings on in our business. This was an address I sent to them all in 1886 to inform them of why my Mint Rock was the best and what the New Year had in store.
It is always good to make sure that when they leave the shop and offer my finest confections to their dearest chuckaboos that they can always remember where to go to buy some more. This is one of the bags that I would dispense my confections into for my customers c1860
One of my many product lists, this from the mid 1880s. I am sure now that my staff have seen this once more that they will be searching my recipe books to bring many of these products back to life in the coming years.
Perhaps my “Surprise Nuts” will make an appearance once more!
